Hello and welcome, I'm Dylan, and I am excited to introduce you to the Police Technology Program that I've been following for the past two years at Ahuntsic College. This program involves a variety of courses such as criminology, sociology, law, emergency care or even self-defense. These courses give you a good opportunity to have a new perspective and understanding of human behaviors. So, being a police officer gives you the possibility to discover your own limits.

Either in school or at work, you are going to write messages or important notes that will be read by other professionals. Indeed, you don't want to do writing errors.

When I started school, I was not the best student in writing in English. However, through a lot of hard work and dedication along the way, I have improved my writing significantly.

For example, during the last semester, I've got an average of 90% in writing.

My goal in making this video is to provide you different writing tools that will help you to become more productive and trustworthy in the eyes of others.

This video will be around 4 to 5 minutes. It is all it takes for you to properly understand the different writing tools I'm presenting to you and being able to use it too.

As police officers, a significant part of our job will be to write reports related to the calls we have. However, situations can be stressful, and you may not have ample time to make clear, and error-free notes.

If you write an important email, and it is filled up of errors, it will make you look unprofessional, and you will surely lose your credibility.

If you make a report after a situation, and the report contains many grammar errors, you will surely be perceived as a fool. Indeed, your reports are subject to appear in court, and law professionals such as lawyers and judges will read it.

Don't worry too much. I have the perfect solution to solve this problem. Let me show you how you can remain to this problem.

First, open your browser. Any browser available. For example, google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Then, click on the address bar and type the following URL : "VirtualWritingTutor". When it's done, click on the enter button of your computer or laptop. If you typed the URL correctly, you will see this page.

Once you arrive at this page, you can see in the top left-hand corner, the logo of the website. You can see the navigation menu presented just below the logo where you have some useful features like the steps to create your screencast. In the top right corner of the screen, you can see that you are perfectly connected to the website. In the middle of the screen, you have a text area, where you can type any text you are struggling with. In our case, to be able to have well-written texts, we are going to use the grammar checker which is right here, below the navigation menu. When you scroll down, you can see the instruction of all the different features that the website offers.

To resolve the issue of making grammatical mistakes while writing our daily police reports, we will enter our text in the text area provided and click on the check grammar button. You’ll see all the errors you made displayed below. For example, if I write in a report: "On October 2nd, 2024, my partner and I was responding to a domestic violence call," and then I click on the check grammar button, I'll be automatically directed to the feedback drop-down menu below. As you can see, when you scroll down, we see all the errors that need to be corrected. So, in my case, we have to correct "an domestic violence", and instead put "a domestic violence". Virtual Writing Tutor also gives you more interesting information about your text, such as word count, paragraph count, error count, and error density.

I promised I would show you how to minimize the risk making errors while writing a text or notes as a police officer, and I did it using the Virtual Writing Tutor website.
